Donetsk State University of Management welcomed the participants of the coordinating meeting of the universities-partners of the TEMPUS project.

The rector of DonSUM, Dr.Povazhny greeted the participants.

At the meeting it was stated that at present most of the planned outcomes of the project were achieved.

Working meeting was opened by the speech of the Project coordinator Prof. Borys Samotokin (ZSTU). He described the main peculiarities of the European way of study and analyzed in details the curriculum of the Institute National des Telecommunications, where he was analyzing the curriculum and syllabi. On the basis of the analysis of curriculums and syllabi presented by participants of the Autumn mobility the tentative curriculum has been developed.

It was proposed to set the period of study in one year for full-time students and 1.5 years for part time students. Within the frames of such period disciplines will be combined into 4 modules with the duration of each module – 12 weeks. The curriculum is published at the project web-site and given at the end of the document. Traditional courses included into curriculum to let the people from the Engineering specialties to enter the MBA program. To integrate MBA and IT the module 3.2 has been added. Internship (probation) of the students will be organized in the industries, business companies etc.

Stuydy books on the disciplines fixed to the universities are to be published in two versions (English and Ukrainian) to the end of the second year of the project.

There are some problems with the basis studies and language courses. Students have different levels and because of diversities of Ukrainian system of study can have different aspects of knowledge, partly because of different business schools.

The other point is the level of career prospective of the students. Whom we expect to prepare within this program? Will they be top, middle, or low level managers? We still do not agree about the admission requirements. It will draw out the way to forming the curriculum and matriculation on its own.

^ Comments of Prof. Samotokin:

As to the admission requirements, they are still under consideration of our consortium. You can propose your ideas and we will consider them along with the others. Everybody wants to let the engineering bachelors to enter the MBA&IT as well as economical bachelors. As to the level of masters – it would be better to orient the program at the top and middle level managers. I propose to utilize the experience of our European partners in creation of MBA programs and perhaps we will orient our program to European MBA rather than to American.

^ Comments of Prof. Victor Grischak (ZSU)

Taking into account the necessity of the Economical theory in this curriculum I propose to include it into developed curriculum as it is done in Barcelona.

As to the level of managers, I think, top manager will not leave his working place for one year to have such a master course. Perhaps the students will have no experience because will come immediately after having received the bachelor degree.

^ Comments of Prof. Lyudmyla Kutidze (ZSU)

It worth to analyze the work of Mrs. Ushakova, who also works on the MBA program in Ukraine and creates the summer schools in Ukraine.

Comments of Prof. Andriy Grekhov (European University)

We should create the program that will be interesting not only in Ukraine, but in the other countries as well. It will let students from China and Asian countries to study our master program.

^ Comments of Prof. Povidayko (Legnitsa School of Management).

In Poland, we do not have the section of Self study work. Therefore, we have auditorium hours in amount of 3500 hours and any hour can be taken from this amount.

Other comments:

To make the program flexible, we could accept if students will pass some examinations without attending lectures if they have deep knowledge on come courses. It also could be valuable to let students choose more than two selective coutses.

For the long-distant countries we could prepare the packages for distant-learning, for example for China students and then pay for mobility of teachers there for the examination time and diploma defense.

We should fix the subject to the universities for preparing and then for translation into English.

^ End of Discussion.

During the meeting the working group representatives were justifying the curriculum to the Ukrainian and EU standards, as it is done in partner Universities, clarifying the aims and objectives of the program. The recommendations of the European partners were taken into account concerning the organization of the education process in the frames of the MBA&IT program. The general experience of the European leading Business Schools which offer MBA and Ukrainian program were reflected in the program structure.

It was plan to hold the next coordination meeting in June (21-24) in Kiev. By the end of May, each Ukrainian University should prepare and send detailed syllabi of the fixed courses and form the group of the professors and technical personnel who will participate in the mobility in October 2004.

To the activity 7.4 Exterior Advisory Group quality control and monitoring will include the external Expert.
