Introduction to hygiene



  1. Prevention as a part of medical activity. Notion about primary, secondary and tertiary (‘tesheri ) prevention.

  2. Hygiene as a medical teaching and scientific science. Distribution of hygiene.

  3. Main purpose and tasks of hygiene. List of standards. Most important notions.

  4. Sanitaria as a branch of ukranian Public health.

  5. History of hygiene.


Medicine – it is a science or type of the human activity about diagnostic, treatment and prevention of people diseases as such as methods of capacity for work increasing and expectancy life prolongation. According to the last molecular biology discovery human being may reach 300 years.

Health (WHO) it is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of diseases or infirmity . This is an idealistic definition and, if it were possible to quantify any of these terms, perhaps few people could be regarded as truly healthy.

Percentage of children health level depends on following factors:

1. Biological factors: Genetics, pregnancy, delivery, health state of parents

are shared by 10 -12 %

2. Social and economic ones are shared by 60-65 %: Better to use life style.

3. Environment quality is shared by 20 %:

  • ecological


Other side they say 80 % of all diseases among the population can be formed due to ecological pressure in separate old industrial regions (including Donbass)


Prevention – according the scientific definition it is the system of legislative, organizational, technical, technological, planning, sanitarian and sanitarian, and technical and medical measure, sanitarian propaganda as well which have purpose of strengthening of people health and morbidity level decrease in population.

There are three level of prevention in hygiene:

  1. Primary prevention – it is a system of measures directed to exclusion of environmental adverse factor affect.

  2. Secondary prevention - it is a system of measures directed to timely determining of a disease onset which makes possibility a complete recovery from the disease.

  3. Tertiary prevention- it is a system of measures directed to regular examination and treatment of chronic case makes exclusion development of disease and it’s complications origin.

Hygiene - It is a branch of medical science which studies of regularities how environment influence on human health with the purpose of substantiation diagnostic, treatment and prevention measure among people.

In the fast development society it’s very important to have profound knowledge about hygienic regularities and in middle of 20 century hygiene was differentiated in occupational hygiene, nutrition hygiene, communal hygiene, hygiene of children and adolescent, radiological hygiene and many others. More then over in each part of them has been continuing differentiation process. For example in occupational hygiene female hygiene originated or aerospace hygiene. In communal hygiene hospital hygiene originated etc.


Primary tasks of hygiene:


1. Investigation of environmental natural and anthropogenic (ensrepa’genic) factors which may influence on human organism-their sources, reasons of origin, affects channel , basic quantitative and qualitative characteristics.


2. Investigation and comprehension of mechanisms of biolological effects using life and laboratory experiments .


3. Scientific substantiation and development hygienic standards, norms, regulations, specifications and recommendations directed for decrease or elimination adverse factors affects and maintenance of positive factors affects.


4. Inculcation hygienic recommendations in practical activity, their efficiency assessment and further perfection.


5. Scientifically based prediction of the sanitary situation in the country, region or locality for the nearest or remote prospect using many-valued mathematical modeling.
