Agricultural Policy Responding to New Challenges
in Food and Environmental Quality and
by Dieter Kirschke,
Humboldt University of Berlin
Agricultural sciences and agricultural economics are facing new challenges beyond the market. The issues of food and environmental quality and rural development demand for new approaches for teaching and research. As an example, we present an interactive programming approach for decision-making support in rural development. It is demonstrated how the approach can be used to support goal-oriented decision-making in complex situations and to identify relevant options and strategies for decision-makers. The perspective for agricultural economics teaching and research is to use its comparative advantage in analysing and designing complex systems and to support policy makers in evaluating and managing agricultural and rural development
