The method of creating the optimal range of medicines for children with gastritis and duodenitis in a specialized hospital is presented here.
Key words: gastrointestinal drugs, hospital care, children, gastritis, duodenitis.
ABC-and VEN analyses allow establishing priorities for effective use of medicines under conditions of limited financial resources.
Standard and legal documents on rendering the medical and pharmaceutical care, and also assignment sheets of medical histories were investigated with the aid of content analysis. 960 medical histories of children who were undergoing inpatient treatment in Gastrointestinal Pathology department of treatment-and-prophylactic establishment during 2010-2011 were analysed. 49 medical histories of children with the diagnosis based on MKB-10 with the K29 code "Gastritis and Duodenitis" were selected for further research. Analysis of assignment sheets of selected medical histories showed that for the studied period patients undergoing inpatient treatment were prescribed 61 medications based on INN from 49 groups of drugs based on ATC-WHO classification.
Prescription frequency of studied medications fluctuates from 1 (0.35%) to 33 (11.54%), which points out the imbalance in this range of medicines. Results of ABC/VEN analysis allow making scientifically reasonable recommendations with regards to inclusion of certain medicines in local forms of medicines of treatment-and-prophylactic establishments based on INN and trade names taking into account features of a course of a studied disease at regional level. The optimum range of studied medications, including 12 names from 10 pharmacological groups, which provided 60% of prescriptions for treatment of children with gastritis and duodenitis in an aggravation stage, in the conditions of specialized inpatient care was identified.
