For students:

We are looking for essays and research papers from students that use statistics or econometrics and rely on economic models, theory or economic reasoning to analyze various issues of regional economic development in Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, including but not limited to:

  • Regional variation in economic development

  • Regional economic impact of the business start-ups and closures

  • Commuting patterns, internal migration dynamics, human capital and economic development

  • The rationale for regional labor cost differentials

  • Quality of local public services and its impact on economic development

  • Transportation, communication, electricity, water, waste disposal, sewage and land use in economic development

  • Tourism-based local economic development: success-determining factors

  • Parks, affordable housing, crime prevention, and other residential amenities as drivers of local development

  • Natural resources and environment in economic development

Both essays and research papers should be based either upon original research done by a student or inspired by appropriately acknowledged work of other researchers with additional analysis conducted by the student.

Students’ works should be written in English. Please read special requirements for Students’ essays and research papers on kse.org.ua.

For Instructors:

Additionally, we are planning to organize a “Teaching Section” to bring together instructors (ranked from Aspirants to Professors) of any economic courses at universities in Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova and share teaching and classroom experience. Here at KSE we believe that bringing real-life cases into classroom greatly enhances students’ comprehension of various economic concepts. Many of our partners from other universities share the same opinion. For this section, we invite submissions from instructors who creatively use local development projects as case-studies or other educational tools in their teaching of economic disciplines.

Instructors’ submissions may be written either in English or Ukrainian/Russian. ^ Please read special requirements for Instructors’ applications on kse.org.ua.

All interested applicants should submit their essays, papers (for students) and presentations (for instructors) with a completed application form indicating the category (essay, research paper or presentation) by March 1, 2011 at conference@kse.org.ua.

All applicants will be notified about the results of selection by March 15, 2011. The selection will be made by a committee consisting of the KSE faculty members. The successful applicants will be offered to present their work at the KSE Students and Teaching Outreach Conference on April 9-10, 2011.
