Public relations speeches promote good will and positive feelings about a business. Most large companies understand the value of maintaining positive relationships with stockholders, customers, politicians, and the public at large. Many companies provide speakers' bureaus where employees are available to speak to the public. Coors Brewing Company in Golden, Colorado, maintains a speakers' bureau of employees who address many issues such as drinking and driving; succeeding in the corporate environment; and overcoming major obstacles in one's life. Coors sponsors these speakers at no cost in order to foster positive relations with the community. Other public relations speeches include introductions, bestowing awards, and welcome and farewell talks. The mood of public relations talks is generally upbeat and positive.

The instructional speech can be either formal or informal. Your goal in this type of talk is for your audience to understand the material you are covering and to apply your explanation to their work. For example, you could explain how an indexing system works, the correct procedure for filing a complaint, or the most effective way to handle customers. The important part of this kind of speech is to make sure that your audience can adequately apply what you've told them.

A briefing is a session where information is provided to a decision maker so that eventually a problem may be solved or a decision will be made. Generally a briefing will consist of background material, the options available, the pros and cons of the options, and any other information that will assist a leader in solving a problem.

Reports are an extremely common type of speech in most businesses. Some employees are responsible for weekly or monthly updates on the progress of their projects at staff meetings. Reports give everyone in a department or staff an opportunity to find out what's happening in all areas of their division or company. Reports can cover topics that run the gamut from the progress in gaining prospective clients to the problems with integrating a new computer system.

The persuasive speech has the purpose of getting others to accept your opinion or idea and generally involves others changing their view of something. Let's say that you have developed a great marketing idea and you know that your plan could increase sales of your business's products. It's up to you to create a persuasive speech, explaining your plan and providing evidence that will support your belief that the business will profit. Or perhaps you are convinced that your business can save hours each week by making two changes in your bookkeeping system. Your task in a persuasive speech is to present what you want to change and to support your argument with substantiated evidence.

A unique and highly valued kind of persuasive talk is the sales speech. People who master sales can be some of the best-paid individuals in business. Because the important characteristics of a sales speech remain the same no matter what you are selling, salespeople are able to transfer their skills from business to business. Thus, there is a lot of freedom that comes from mastering the sales speech.

Research indicates that there are four components fundamental to the sales speech. These areas include sincerity, empathy, knowledge, and enthusiasm. Sincerity involves a belief in both what you're selling and the benefits of that product or service for the buyer. If you're not honest, it's difficult to look someone in the eye and list the reasons why someone needs what you offer.

The subjects of leadership and also that of workers’ performance has become a serious scientific study in the last three decades. This could be clearly seen from the large number of studies that had concentrated on this area. The reason for these are largely connected to the growth of complex industrial; societies and the problems associated with it, both in terms of those studies has been to enhance performance and productivity and in the same vein to understand the human relation problems in the organization, with the objectives of improving them. There had been various investigations by authors in studying the style of managerial leadership in terms of its effectiveness on worker’s performance.

Early studies of leadership were primarily attempt to identify unique traits of leaders. These studies were probably guided by the belief that some people are “born-leaders”, whereas other people could never be successful as leaders.

The trait approach to leadership began to give way to a conception of leadership in terms of various functions which must be performed in order to ensure that the group attains its goals and remains a viable, cohesive entity.

One important implication of this new approach was the shift of attention from leadership traits to leaders’ behaviour. The leadership behaviour which is called for in one situation may not be appropriate in a totally different situation. Concerns for behaviour led also to an awareness of the importance of situational variables such as the personality and expectations of subordinates, the nature of the group’s task is noted, according to (Heinz Weihrish, and Harold Koontz, 1999).

The concept of leadership is very important to mankind in general, and more essentially with organizational work setting. As important as the leadership concept is however, it cannot have much meaning except in relation to the leader-follower relationship. In other words, for there to be a leader, there must be followers i.e. there must be people who will voluntarily subject themselves and their behaviour to be influenced or affected by the acts of an individual known as the leader. While leaders influence their followers, followers often times also determine the style of leadership prevalent at any given time noting their organization.

Style in management however, means the way in which managing is done. According to Henry, D (1999), style is just something that exists in the surface that is something you find in some people but not in others. Style must match needs and circumstance. He also said further that management style is a combination of characteristics that indicate how a person influences the things he does, and control the effectiveness with which he does them.

There is a wide variety of management styles. Most have some good point and some bad points. Each executive brings to the job his own particular blend of management traits, which add up to his style. On the basis of such dominant traits, we can identify ten prevalent management styles.

Leadership is generally defined simply as influence, the process of influencing people in order for them to strive willingly towards the achievement of organizational goals and objectives. While the word style is closely equivalent to the way in which the leader influences followers Luthans.

Therefore, every group of people that perform very close to its entire compability has some persons as its head who is definitely skilled in the art of leadership. Leadership is concerned with the total manner in which a manager influences action of subordinates. It includes the issuing of orders that are clearly accomplished. It implies a continual training activity in which subordinates are given training activity; instructions to enable them carry out the particular assignment in the existing situation. It necessarily involves the motivation of workers to try to meet the expectation of managers.

Leadership consist of maintain discipline and rewarding those who perform properly. In short, leading is the final action of a manager in getting others act according to established rules. The qualities, characteristics and skills required in a leader are determined to a larger extent by the situation in which he is to function as a leader.

Stogdill (1999), in his survey of leadership research pointed out that “there are almost as many different definitions of leadership as there are persons who have attempted to define the concept”.

Therefore managerial leadership can be summarily defined as the process of directing and influencing the task-related activity of group members. Chemers, M. M. (2002) summed it all that “A leader is not a person characterized by any particular and consistent set of personality by traits.
