The EnviroGRIDS project
The project EnviroGRIDS is a unified system for forecasting natural, social and economic processes. It allows learning what the Black Sea Region will be like within the next 50 years. This project works in accordance with principles and aims of Protection Convention Commission of the Black Sea and International Commission of the Danube protection.
The scientific aim of the project is to work out and adopt such monitoring system in the Black Sea basin. This system would prevent and help to solve problems of social importance, which appear as result of climatic changes. This system will include information about past years observations and early warning system which is capable to forewarn scientists, politicians and the population about risks: for health, agriculture production; changes in ecosystems, caused by climate and population processes.
EnviroGRIDS is one of the main points in the Programs for global monitoring system on Earth in 2009-2011. The main result of the project EnviroGRIDS & Black Sea Catchment will involve the system which will use the newest international standards of collection, storage, spreading, analyzing and visualization of information about past, present and future of the region. This will be made possible by using technologies for information collection and processing. The exact same mathematical tool is used to process information on the well-known collider. It concerns paying attention to the results of monitoring surface condition of the Earth from space, new informational technologies and GIS-models for the whole Black Sea basin. To work out such difficult system they will create ultramodern infrastructure of spatial GRID data which is included into the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS). All these systems are formed in accordance with new European Union directive regarding infrastructure for spatial information in the European Community (INSPIRE).
26 European scientific organizations from 15 countries are participating partners of the project. The Odessa National I. I. Mechnikov University is among them. Other participants are such famous international organizations as European Environment Agency, UNEP, UNESCO, Danube Commission, Black Sea Commission, Computer Center of nuclear research (which includes the world-famous collider).
