of the sixth D. B. Kabalevsky International Competition “Music Teacher XXI” Promoter - Moscow Pedagogical State University (Russia)
Organizer - National Pedagogical University named by of M.P. Dragomanov (Ukraine, Kiev) ( NPU)
are pleased to announce:
the Sixth D. B. Kabalevsky International Competition “Music Teacher XXI” to be held 15-19 October, 2012 will take place at National Pedagogical University (Ukraine, Kiev)
The Ministry of Education Science and Sports of Ukraine, The Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Committee on Education of Kiev, The Department on Education of Moscow, National Union of Composers of Ukraine , Union of Composers of Russia, Association of music education figures of Ukraine, National non-governmental foundation “Arts Education and Culture” ( Russia), the Russian branch of the International Society for Music Education (ISME)
The idea of the competition – professor E. B. Abdullin, Doctor of Pedagogy
Competition’s objectives are:
- to find and support talented music teachers and students in- and outside of Ukraine Russia and other countries;
- to demonstrate new ideas, contents and methods of musical education and upbringing in the system of general music education;
- to display innovations in higher music education pedagogy; and
- to provide international music pedagogy expertise exchange.
The competition will be held in five categories:
Category 1 – school teachers conduct music lessons.
Category 2 – university students conduct music lessons.
Category 3 – school teachers pioneer music pedagogy technologies.
Category 4 – university students pioneer music pedagogy technologies.
Category 5 - demonstration of forms team music playing in family as a basis of home upbringing
The Competition trials include two Rounds.
First Round will only use lesson’s videos (Categories 1 and 2) or descriptions of a music pedagogy technology pioneered by the participant along with the video enclosed of how the innovation works during the lesson (Categories 3 and 4 or video of music playing of family members (5 category) The videos along with documents for a corresponding category should no later than 25 April, 2012
Second Round will be held 15-19 October, 2012 at the Institute of Music of NPU. Participants will get invitation for the Second Round, who would most effectively demonstrate their professional competencies in the First Round.
The order of appearance in the Second Round will be drawn by lot.
Participants of Categories 1 and 2 will have two rehearsals with schoolchildren.
Pupil age: 9–16 years (3–9 grades).
The content of the music lesson should follow the chosen topic (educational program is at the discretion of participants including their own ones).
а) the performance of a short instrumental piece by the teacher;
b) the analysis of a composition with partial illustration and active involvement of the pupils; and
c) vocal and choral practices.
elementary improvisation, composing music with children, music-oriented multi-artistic activity (including music-and-movement practices) and use of children’s music instruments.
Lesson evaluation criteria:
elegant artistic and educational concept; artistic and cognitive orientation; the adoption of the emotional drama method; and musical and creative involvement of children.
- communicative and organizational culture;
- effective management in various types of children’s musical activities;
- instrumental, choral and vocal skills;
- musicality, artistry and artistic taste; and
- the ability to foster musical creativity of children.
The participant (a teacher or a student) presents his/her innovation in the sphere of music education (a new genre of the lesson with musical and pedagogical provision; a new approach in music education or a different project of the kind) according to the following:
1. Innovation title.
2. The point of innovation: its goal, tasks and novelty.
3. Brief review of relevant bibliography.
4. Adoption technology.
5. Results obtained proving that the innovation is practical for music pedagogy.
The idea-and-adoption evaluation criteria:
The Jury will consist of reputed musicians, methodologists, music teachers and scholars in the spheres of music education pedagogy and performance.
The composition of Jury as well as any changes in it depends on the Organization Board.
The Jury shall use10-score system to evaluate each performance.
The decisions of Jury are final and beyond appeal.
The honour guests of Competition - daughter of the composer – Maria Dmitriyevna Kabalevskaya, Director of D. B. Kabalevsky Center, and his son, Candidate of Pedagogic sciences Yury Dmitriyevitch Kabalevsky are invited as the honorary guests.
The Organization Board has been formed to organize and to carry out the competition. It is commissioned to resolve all matters arising both before and after the beginning of the events.
The Entry Competition Fees for participants ar 300grn for Categories 1, 3&5 and 250 grn for Categories 2 and 4
The Entry Fee is not refundable.
All traveling, accommodation and other expenses are the responsibility of the sending party or the participants.
Participants must acquire their passports, visas and medical insurances on their own.
To be enrolled participants should not later than April 25, 2012 send the following documents and competition materials to the Organization Board (the date to be defined by post stamp unless the data were sent by e-mail).
Video data are to be presented on a DVD-carrier in DVD-video format.
Participants from the countries other than Russia have the right to submit documents and video data and to make competition presentation in English.
