Practical Training for Students the Department of Environmental Engineering & Management National Academy of Municipal Economy Kharkiv (NAMEK) Title of Practical Training: Introduction to the Environmental Studies and Engineering All practical training are obligatory. Places and topics for practical training of the 1st year students are various for different student groups, however the same research/study methodology is applied. Places and topics for traineeship are chosen with assistance of supervisor. Reports are produced by each group of 1st year students. ^ : the City of Kharkiv and its vicinities. The Purpose of the Practical Training – to introduce types and sources of environmental pollution to students and study them on concrete examples. Tasks of the Practical Training - assimilation of 1st year students a basic principle of aquatic ecosystems protection from contamination, hydrochemical and bacteriological water sampling, estimations of air pollution from vehicles, familiarization with types and sources of environmental pollution on territories of urban agglomerates. The Contents of Practical Training: Introduction of main sources of the environment contamination on territories of urban agglomerates. 1. Ecological investigation of the small rivers valleys and green zones on territories of urban agglomerates. 1.1. Preparatory work. 1.2. Ecological investigation. 2. Presentation of the experimental site "Bioplato" for treatment of phytotechnologies.
3.1. Investigation of sources of surge toxic substances and main toxic components perfected gases of vehicles. 3.2. Raw data collection on the territory of investigation, required for estimation of air pollution from vehicles. 3.3. Calculation a specific surge substances and their concentrations on the part of automobile highway. 3.4. Results analysis. 4. The report preparation. Students can choose a place of the practical training by itself or according the distribution. The green zone of Kharkiv (for example, im. T.G. Shevchenko garden, territory of Sarzhin Yar and others) can be chosen as object of the practical study. In case of working under one training’s object, students can prepare the common report on Practical Training. Learning outcomes: Knowledge and understanding:
Students should be able:
1. Ecological investigation of the small rivers valleys and green zones on territories of urban agglomerates Preparatory work (a study of map of Kharkiv; analysis of scientific literature and study materials, including methodical instructions, manuals, articles and national environmental legislation; the overview of methods of sampling and their documentation; photomaterials preparation; preparing a diary of the practical study). Ecological investigation (estimation of rivers and reservoirs condition, determination of the riverbed condition, conditions of dams, the type of high water vegetation in border of the riverbed; the complex description of the green zone condition of the city, including description of the sanitary condition of the territory, destination of the object in city, vegetation condition on considered territory and etc; revealing the objects, worsening ecological situation on a green zones territory, as well as in the system of given water object (issues of industry waste water, sewage unset, scrambles domestic or some other rubbish); fixing a diameters on the scheme, material and conditions all discovered issues, pipe lines along coast; determination of the names and borders of the industry enterprises, transport depots, storehouses and others, located near the river; fixing on the scheme all scrambles, ravines on both riverside, lines of electricity, fixing all object observations on the map with use the conditional indications and photo works, determination of the automobile highways near the river for the following estimation of their pollution by vehicles). ^ 2.1. Overview of methods of protection water objects from contamination; and problem of sewages treatment of the small cities. 2.2. The study theoretical base of treatment of sewages, familiarization the student with literature on given problem. 2.3. Visit and familiarization with experimental site “Bioplato” (Velyki Prohody). 2.4. Overview of methods of the sampling, their documentation, as well as methods of the measurement of sewages. 2.5. Obtain skills on hydrochemical and bacteriological tests selection of sewages, measurement of sewage consumption. ^ 3.1. Investigation of sources of surge toxic substances and main toxic components perfected gases of vehicles. 3.2. Raw data collection on the territory of investigation, required for estimation of air pollution from vehicles. 3.3. Calculation a specific surge substances and their concentrations on part of automobile highway. 3.4. Results analysis. ^ The report about practical study is formed based on results, obtained during ecological investigation the chosen river valleys and studies of special literature. The report includes analytical, methodical, descriptive sections and results.On applicable map a students should inflict all discovered sources of environmental pollution, select a zones in accordance with functional use the territory, type of automobile highways in accordance with intensity of motion. It is necessary to indicate on the map a scale and used conditional indications. The report about estimation of air pollution from vehicles must include the following sections: a) characteristics of main sources of surge toxic substances and main toxic components perfected gases of vehicles; b) methodic of the raw data calculation and their definition; c) calculation a specific surge substances from vehicles; d) calculation of pollutants concentrations on the part of automobile highway; e) conclusions about air pollution situation on investigated territory.
